We are now in the midst of the Lenten season, which for centuries has been observed by both Roman Catholics as well as many Protestant denominations. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and continues for forty days to the end of Holy Week. And although most of us have, since childhood, observed Lent; few of us understand its true purpose.
