The ministry of the deacon is one of compassion. In fact, the Greek word diakonos means “a servant” or “minister.” Thus, a deacon is a person who serves or tends to the needs of the people within the church. Someone once said, “In God’s eyes greatness consists not in the number of people who serve us, but in the number of people we serve; the greater the number, the better the Christian.”
